step by step moving forward

Hello,
AFAIK I thought abbreviations are NA in classes, and I am :o that Dr. Anderson like us to use emoticons. Most of them are new to me. I always liked the :). IRL I am taking more time figuring out the emoticons and net abbreviations. Eventually in the course of time I may use them. I like to learn the technologies that are easier for the instructor and the learner, rather than getting confused with many. I am trying to take one step at a time. I am working hard to keep up with the various technology, black board discussions and assignments. BTW I am so happy that my house is finally repaired.
TTYL,
Mercy.

I am with you. I never use them because I don't want to let them become a habit and then accidently slip them into a bussiness email.:)

Mercy;

Glad your home is repaired also. I lived without electricity last December for 11 days but OMG I cannot imagine house being torn apart - and trying to continue in school. FWIW, I love to use emoticons as I can to help solidify the meaning and IMO decrease misunderstandings that I feel occur sometimes with just text communication. :) Rhonda

Most faculty claim that they are "unprofessional," but I've noticed that they tend to soften a bit once they learn to use them. The emoticons and abbreviations are most useful in chat settings, when you need to convey emotion or communicate quickly. Usually, we wouldn't use them in discussion postings and such, but I think in this case it's a good idea because it will help you get used to them.

Now deliberate misspellings that don't save any space... that's just silly. Then again, maybe I'm just too out of touch to understand that "kewl" ascends to a whole different level of coolness. Could be. ;)
