Technology wins

Hello All,
Aren't we glad that module two is almost over. I wonder what module three holds. I assume it is going to be good. As I navigated throught the web, I found an interesting article in "Nurse Education" about web-based teaching in undergraduate nursing programs. 80% of 171 faculty indicated spending more time in planning and implementing a webcourse than traditional course. The study explored web-based teaching experiences to online instruction both rewarding and frustrating. The authors studied comparison of online and traditional methods, strategies utilized by faculty in webcourse design and their successes and failures.
Successes
1. more responsive to student needs and more flexible
2. More collaborative
3. more interactivity
4. Successful or very successful teaching experiences
5. 100% of the participants said that any course could be taught online.
Failures
1. Insufficient time/extensive time needed for planning and implementation
2. Missed the students and the classroom
Since the successes outweighs the failure, I am more of a believer of online classes.

So technology wins, and I am always on the winning team. :)

Mercy, Thoughtful comments! I am planning to begin converting a face-to-face course in Human Sexuality to an online course next spring. I hope to have it ready to go by the summer session! I plan to use some of the educational technologies we have learned to create an online community (important for discussions in the HS course). Amazing how we keep adapting! I have a friend whose mother is 84 and loves her computer, internet and email! Rhonda

I have been wondering if an online class was more time consuming for the teacher. It seemed like it had to be... I was right. You proved it! Can you link the article you found to your blog. I would like to read it!

The time required should decrease once the instructor complete a couple of semester. Interesting comments. Thanks
